Clearinghouse for Research on Disability Website (chdisability.moh.gov.my)
The National Council for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) suggested the development of a clearinghouse for research on PWD. The Technical Committee of PWD, Ministry of Health (MOH) has appointed Institute for Public Health (IPH) to develop a Clearinghouse for Research on Disability.
Clearinghouse is defined as a center that provides information on persons with disabilities for relevant stakeholders. A clearinghouse will collate, organize and disseminate information on published research, articles, written policies, guidelines, grey literature (thesis and dissertations) and other e.g. cabinet papers for the use of policy makers, researchers and lay persons related to health, education and social aspects.
The website Clearinghouse for Research on Disability (chdisability.moh.gov.my) was launched by the Honorable Minister of Health, YB Dato' Sri Liow Tiong Lai on 4th December 2012 during the monthly Ministry of Health assembly, in conjunction with the International Day for the Disabled. The promotion of the Clearinghouse for Research on Disability to ministries, universities, associations (NGO) and states was also successfully conducted through the MOH website.
2.1 General Objective
The clearinghouse will provide the compilation of research on disability, both internationally and locally, to produce evidence based data for stakeholders in improving the "quality of life" for the disable.
3.0 Concept of Clearinghouse for Research on Disability
The compilation of research findings are beneficial for policy makers and lay public, and help in formulating activities and prioritizing the needs of the disable. Additionally, Clearinghouse for Research on Disability will help highlight the problems faced by people with disability, the gaps and need for future research.
The Clearinghouse for Research on Disability has published a bibliographic compilation of local research and grey literature from local universities, titled Bibliography of Local Literature, Clearinghouse for Research on Disability ISBN 978-983-3387-73-6.
